Pittsburgh Pirates Logo
Pitcher Chris Peters

Chris Peters' Baseball CardChris Peters was not actually born in Peters Township, but we can claim him as a native son, because he spent most of his youthful years here and learned to love baseball while living in our community. He was born in Fort Thomas, Kentucky on January 28, 1972, and moved to Peters Township around 1979 when his family relocated here. He is a 1990 graduate of Peters Township High School, where he pitched, played third base and fielded on the baseball team. His family still lives in Peters Township and he lives in nearby Library, PA.
Chris attended Indiana University and studied sports marketing. It was on the college baseball team that he began focusing on his pitching arm. In 1993, he decided to turn professional and became a Pittsburgh Pirates first round draft pick. He played in the minors for the Augusta Green Jackets, the Lynchburg Hill Cats, the Calgary Cannons, and the Carolina Mud Cats. In 1997, he was brought up from the minors to don the uniform #38 and to become a Pittsburgh Pirate relief pitcher.

Chris Peters gives autographChris is a soft-spoken young man with boyish good looks, an easy going manner and an endearing smile. He is polite, modest and intensely proud of his accomplishments. His major achievements in life, so far, are "to pitch in my first major league game, to get an out on the great Barry Bonds and to get my first major league RBI". They all happened on the same night.
He loves playing ball for his hometown team in front of his friends, his neighbors and his family. He aspires to "get a starting position, to win twenty games and to pitch in a World Series". Let's all root for Chris, our hometown hero, and cheer him on.

**Note: After this interview was first posted, Chris Peters returned to the Minor Leagues. We hope to see him back with the Pirates soon!

We would like to thank Chris Peters, Mike Gordon and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
